This course is designed to provide an introductory level of understanding of the manner in which individuals interact with one another via the network. Possession of this understanding is absolutely critical to your ability to design effective learning environments on the network. This course takes an immersion approach to helping you develop your understanding by requiring you to make extensive, reflective use of several representative interactive media. You will also read several representative pieces of writing in each area.

This course has been developed using portions from several of the books, videos, and audio products produced by Glenn Latham. These materials will give parents the skills necessary to raise children well. Glenn Latham said of his book, The Power of Positive Parenting, which is his definitive book, upon which this course is built, that it has been "subjected to more independent, scientific scrutiny than any parenting book in print today. In every instance, it has been shown to be an effective parenting tool. For that reason, it has been adopted by parent training programs, schools, university professors, early childhood and head start programs, and governmental programs as the basic text for teaching parenting skills."

Welcome to Learn and Apply HTML, INST 5260. HTML is what tells the browser how to display your webpage you create. Even if you use a program like Microsoft Front Page or Macromedia Dreamweaver, behind the scenes, they are creating the HTML for you. This class was chosen as an exemplary course in 2002 in the WebCT exemplary course competition. It has since gone through 2 revisions including the latest one for Summer 2005. In the Spring of 2005 approximately 60 students in Hong Kong and mainland China took this class with an onsite facilitator assisting them.

Innovation continues to occur on the internet at an extremely lively pace. What was once the realm of email, FTP, Gopher, and the Web is barely recognizable a mere 10 years later. Keeping up with the speed of innovation and maintaining a familiarity with the most recent tools and capabilities is handy in some professions and absolutely critical in others. This course is designed to help you understand and effectively use a variety of "web 2.0" technologies including blogs, RSS, wikis, social bookmarking tools, photo sharing tools, mapping tools, audio and video podcasts, and screencasts.

Hector Mendiola, a retired pediatrician from Mexico City, who was living in Utah, noticed that many of the children of migrant workers were illiterate in their native tongue and so he developed, along with Fred Berthong, a local community volunteer, a computer assisted program to help Hispanic youth who were illiterate in their native language to learn to read and write in Spanish.

The CALFNES program (Computer Assisted Language For Non English Speakers), which they created, and is now in the public school system, got the attention of the Mexican Federal Government, which in turn has led to recognition and connections with other federal officials and private businesses who provide educational programs to Mexicans living abroad. Other successes then followed Dr. Mendiola's success.

We will explore the theoretical and historical motivation behind modern error control coding, particularly algebraic block coding. Linear codes, both block and convolutional, will be introduced, followed by a description of the algebraic tools necessary to describe and implement Reed-Solomon codes. Modern algrebraic concepts including Galois fields will be presented, along with circuit implementations. Also, convolutional codes and trellis-coded modulation will be covered, along with the Viterbi algorithm for decoding. Low-density parity check codes and Turbo codes will be covered, as time permits. Much of the learning will be expressed in formal (theorem/proof) format to develop rigor.

Instructional technology is a systematic way of designing, developing, implementing, and evaluating the processes of learning and teaching with specific objectives based on research in human learning and communication. It employs a combination of human and nonhuman resources to bring about more effective instruction. Instructional technology includes aspects of instructional design, product development, interactive learning technologies, multimedia, distance education, and library and information literacy. Each aspect of the field has unique contributions to make to the teaching-learning process.

The purpose of this class is to review and analyze the nature and function of ancient Greek and Roman drama in its theatrical, historical and social context. We will discuss all the major dramatists from classical antiquity whose works are preserved entire and, as time permits, glance at the fragmentary remains of their and other less well attested authors' drama. Through all of this, our goal will be to reconstruct as fully as possible the evolution of ancient play-making. We will focus especially on how the microcosm of theatre in antiquity fed and fed off of the larger political, philosophical and economic communities around it. All in all, we aim to integrate, as broadly as possible, the picture we receive of classical drama and theatre into that of ancient history, society and thought.

This conversation between Dr. Robert Gagne, and Dr. M. David Merrill, took place July 10, 1989 before an audience of about 200 at Utah State University. A series of papers based on this discussion later appeared in Educational Technology Magazine. The conversation highlights the main points of Gagne and Merrill's respective learning theories, and a comparison of the events of instruction, and Component Display Theory.

You will be introduced to the most important variables that affect fire behavior. You will see how the interactions of fire with its environment must influence our assessments of fire behavior. This course will also introduce you to mathematical fire models available to help us predict fire behavior.

Information theory explores the fundamental limits of the representation and transmission of information. We will focus on the definition and implications of (information) entropy, the source coding theorem, and the channel coding theorem. These concepts provide a vital background for researchers in the areas of data compression, signal processing, controls, and pattern recognition.
