Overview

  • You will learn how to find the core objective on the UEN website.
  • You will learn the core curriculums in different states.

It is important that your instructional activities align to curriculum standards. Utah Education Network ( uen.org ) provides Utah students and educators access to statewide electronic network and systems for the delivery of educational services including the core curriculum.

In this activity, you will learn how to find the core objective on the UEN website and also look at some core curriculums in different states. Please follow the Steps below and after you complete this activity do a self-assessment reviewing the Checklist.

Steps

  1. In your web browser, go to uen.org/core .
  2. Now imagine that you are a fifth grade teacher and trying to find the Utah State fifth grade math core, Standard I, Objective 4: Use fractions to communicate parts of the whole (click on a video will be opened to see a demonstration).
  3. Find these objectives:
    • Utah State secondary Biology core, Standard III, Objective 1: Describe the structure and function of organs.
    • Utah State 4th grade Science core, Standard II, Objective 2: Interpret recorded weather data for simple patterns.
  4. Look at some examples of the core curriculums in different states:
    • New Jersey Core Curriculum: Content standards in New Jersey.
    • California Core Curriculum: Content standards in California.

Checklist

You have completed this activity if:

  • You accessed the web page uen.org/core.
  • You found three objectives:
    • Utah State fifth grade math core, Standard I, Objective 4.
    • Utah State secondary Biology core, Standard III, Objective 1.
    • Utah State 4th grade Science core, Standard II, Objective 2.
  • You looked through the examples of the core curriculums in different states.
