The Collaborative IRB Training Initiative (CITI) was founded in March 2000 as a collaboration between the University of Miami and the Fred Hutchinson Cancer Research Center to develop a web based training program in human research subjects protections.

The current CITI Program offers 2 "Basic" courses. One for Biomedical Researchers and one for Social / Behavioral Researchers (SBR). You will be required to complete the Social and Behavioral Researchers (SBR) course.

There are 9 required modules to complete. The estimated time to complete these modules and pass the respective quizzes will be 4 hours. You do not need to complete them all at one time. You may enter and exit the course at any time.

The course is a university requirement for anyone who conducts research involving humans. The course will need to be repeated every 3 years in order to do research at Utah State University.

Assignment Instructions:

Upon completion of the course Utah State University will automatically be notified of your course completion status. However, to get credit for the EDUC 6550 class you will need to do the following:

  • The link to access the CITI modules is: https://www.citiprogram.org
  • Click on: Register for the CITI Course
  • Click on PARTICIPATING INSTITUTIONS : and register under Utah State University
  • Choose PI (investigator) and Enter a username and password
  • Fill out all of your personal information
  • Under "Which course do you plan to take?" Choose Social and Behavioral Investigator Course Only
  • On the next screen under "Select Group" Choose Group 1
  • After submitting the above information, you will enter the LEARNERS MENU
  • Click on GRADE BOOK
  • Click on Basic Course (Required; Status - Incomplete)
  • 11. You will know that you are in the right set of modules (Social and Behavioral Research – SBR), if the first ones you see are:
    Introduction
    History and Ethical Principles – SBR
    ...
    (and there are a total of 9 modules).

  • Upon Competetion of the Course do the Following:
  • Copy the Course Completion Report
  • Click on: 2.1 Get Credit - CITI Course
