About Professor Mendiola
Dr. Hector Mendiola was born and raised in Mexico. In 1955 he graduated from the Escuela Superior de Medicina, Instituto Politecnico Nacional de Mexico in Mexico City and went on to become a pediatrician. In 1970 he joined the Facultad de Medicina, Universidad Nacional Autonoma de Mexico where he stayed for 23 years. In 1993 Dr. Mendiola left Mexico for Logan, Utah, where he has been ever since. After arriving in Logan he began his work with hispanic immigrants, helping them to learn English, but in many cases Spanish as well. He has volunteered at a number of organizations to further his efforts to help improve litearcy of hispanic immigrants. For the last few years Dr. Mendiola has worked with Utah State University Extension to help produce CALFNES. Dr. Mendiola has earned numerous awards for his efforts, including the Utah State University Golden Key International Honor Society Award in 2003.
