Core Curriculum

It is important that your IA projects align to curriculum standards. Utah Education Network (uen.org) provides Utah students and educators access to statewide electronic network and systems for the delivery of educational services including the core curriculum.

If you live outside Utah, you can find your core standards from this site: http://edstandards.org/Standards.html.

In these activities, you will explore how to find the Utah core, lessons plans, and educational links on the UEN website by doing the following:

1. Use some resources in example topics.
2. Share what you find with your group members.
3. Then do a self-assessment by reviewing the Checklist.

Activity 1

1. Click on the link below to see a demonstration of finding this objective --- Utah State fifth-grade math core, Standard I, Objective 4. Try doing it yourself.

2. Now, find the following resources on the Utah Education Network (uen.org) website:

   • The Utah State fourth-grade science core, Standard II, Objective 2: Interpret recorded weather data for simple patterns.
   • A sixth-grade language arts lesson plan.
   • A social science resource.

Activity 2

Find some UEN resources (core objectives, lesson plans, etc.) that relate to your content area or upcoming teaching activities. Share these resources with your group members by posting them (i.e. URLs) in your small group discussion board, and commenting on the helpfulness of the online resources (or websites) you find.
