- Deselect "Show This Dialog at Startup" and Close
- Everything that you can do from the Welcome Screen can also be done from the main menus.
- You can get the Welcome Screen back through the Help menu.
- Creating a new site
- File ... -> New Site...
- Select Single User -> Next >
- Blank Site -> Next >
- Enter a Name for your site (To avoid potential problems, start with an alpha character and use only alpha-numerics and underlines.)
- Browse... to the location to save your site
- Before you move to the next screen go to Advanced...
- Select Make URLs Case-Sensitive
- Select to use URL Encoding UTF8
- OK
- Finish
- For the assignments in this course, Don't Use Version Control -> Next >
- For the asspgnments in this course, Don't set your Publish Server Options at this time
- Finish
- Take a tour of the Source
- Double-click "index.html"
- Click the Source button at the top of the window.
- On line 8 change "Untitled Page" to the the title of your index page.
- Cmd/Apple + S (To save your page.)
- Return to Layout view. Note that there is no title visible on the page, but there is a title in the "Head" section.
- Switch to Preview view. Note that the title is not visible anywhere.
- View in a browser.
- File -> Preview In -> Default Browser
- Add a default browser
- Add...
- Select "Applications" -> Browser of choice
- Select the checkbox of the browser you would like to make your default browser for GoLive
- OK
- File -> Preview In -> Default Browser
- Note that the title of your page is in the title bar of your browser window.
- Add and format text
- Add several sections of text
- Highlight a logical section of text
- To format, go to the drop-down in the top left that has "Paragraph" selected and select the appropriate type of block type. (Header 1 is really big, header 3 is about the same size as default text, header 6 is really small)
- Highlight another logical section of text
- Control-click, select Style, and then the appropriate inline style
- Add an external, absolute hyperlink
- After copying the url of the external link
- Select the text to be linked
- In the Inspector tab, next to the chain image, paste your url
- If you want your link to open in a new window, set the target to "_blank"
- Add an e-mail link
- Select the text to be linked
- In the Inspector tab, enter the email address instead of a url
- Take a tour of the Objects Palette
- Click through the buttons at the top, starting with the purple "paper" button and moving through the purple "double arrow" button, to view the available object sets within the palette
- Click the button in the lower-right to access the Palette Options
- includes the object sets
- includes a Configure option which allows you to limit the objects to a certain Document Type Definition (DTD) , for this class you should use HTML 4.0 or XHTML 1.0, Transitional or Strict.
- Click the button in the lower-left to change the orientation of the palette Note that the available sections are now displayed as tabs
- If you hover over a button you will be shown the corresponding ToolTip
- You can add the objects to a page either by dragging and dropping them into place or by double-clicking them.
- You will probably only use the following objects in this class
- Table
- Image
- Line
- Comment
- Anchor
- Line Break
- Add an image
- Drag an image object (from the basic objects of the Objects Palette) to the location where you want your image.
- In the Inspector Window, use the button with a file image on it to locate the image location.
- The size information should update automagically.
- Select your desired image/text alignment.
- Assign alternative text.
