Introduction
Introduction
The Mountain Snowpack
The previous units have briefly mentioned some of the types of weak layers and snow grains that contribute to avalanche formation. This unit will provide a more in depth discussion and explain some common tests used to identify weak layers and quantify their strength. By the end of this unit, you should be able to explain the diagram above and make some conclusions about the avalanche danger from it’s stratigraphy. http://www.avalanche.org/%7Euac/encyclopedia/layer_snow.htmshapeimage_3_link_0
