Avalanche Forecast Ratings
Before you head out into the backcountry, you should always check with your local avalanche forecast center to get an idea of the general avalanche hazard. Below is a partial sample advisory.
Notice that the Utah Avalanche Center has forecasted moderate danger on slopes steeper than 35 degrees, with pockets of considerable danger at higher elevations. Forecast centers classify danger into low, moderate, considerable, high, and extreme. The meaning of these ratings is shown below.
