Cultural Myths

hese assigned readings are meant to show a variety of viewpoints and life experiences. In particular, the assigned reading show perspectives from groups who don't typically get represented in the media, or are portrayed in a stereotypical manner. These portrayals create "cultural myths," or unfounded assumptions about different groups of people. A possible myth might be what a "normal" family is, or that anyone can be successful as long as they work hard enough. As you read, consider what culture myths the reading addresses, and whether it changes any cultural myths you might believe.
