Arithmetic coding

Go over idea of arithmetic coding. Start with p 0 = .75, p 1 =.25 and explain procedure for encoding and decoding. Then take case of p 0 =0.7 and p 1 = 0.3. Generalize to multiple ( $\geq 2$ ) symbols.

Discuss numerical problems.
